Athens International Airport, was constructed to replace the original Ellinikon Airport to allow for expansion for the ever-growing international market. It is named after Eleftherios Venizelos, the Greek Prime Minister who made a significant contribution to the development of Greek Aviation and Hellenic Air Force in the 1930's. In 2017 it reached almost 196.000 aircraft movements.
